"Who do you answer to?"... "The same as you do, Princess - the same as anyone out our level does, I answer to my conscience and my sense of duty. And yes if either ever fail us, we can do a great deal of harm... Conscience or obedience. Leader or Follower. Whose orders do you obey?... Conscience and duty" - Admiral Hiram Drayson, star wars, before the storm, page 299 line 1.

"Ah, but I'm also in the business of survival, and in this big, dangerous galaxy one occasionally needs a helping hand. I always think it's nice when there are cards in that hand which the opposition doesn't know about." - Tallon Karrde, Specter of the Past p201

"But tonight, we're going to a party. Because that's our job." -Wedge Antilles

"You can't reduce sapient lives to numbers and exchange them like credits. You can't measure what a boy did in innocence against what a man has to do for the rest of his life." - Ton Phanan

Over seven years ago many of our brethren were gathered together in the aftermath of a great battle to commemorate the heroism of our friends. None of us thought, at that time, of how desperate our situation was. Or how long out battle against the Empire would continue. The future was, for us, the next minute or hour or day or week. Life expectancy, especially among pilots, was measured in missions and seldom were multiple digits involved in the calculations.

At that gathering, on Yavin 4, we were able to celebrate our victory as if, with the destruction of that one terrible weapon-- the first Death Star-- we had brought the Empire crashing down. We knew it wasn't true-- we knew we would abandon Yavin shortly thereafter-- but for that time we were able to forget how desperate and difficult our fight for freedom would be.We could forget how many more of our friends would die pursuing the common dream of freedom for all people, all species, within the galaxy.

That dream still lives. Our fight continues. The Empire still exists, though its strength ebbs, its tenacity slackens, and its grasp on its worlds weakens. Dying though it is, it can still inflict death and these, the bodies of our comrades, make that fact abundantly clear.

I will not tell you that Lujayne or Carter or Pirgi or the others would want you to keep fighting, or that your fighting will make their sacrifice worth it. That's trite, and our friends deserve more than trite. They have given up what we fight to preserve. Our duty, and their silent charge to us, is to continue to fight until the Empire can never again strip life from those who want nothing more sinister than freedom for all. "Seven Caskets" - Wedge Antilles

"Whatever my role, my task is the elimination of the enemy."... "It just seems a bit silly, sir. I could also wear a sign saying 'I'm a wonderful person and I give money to the needy' What’s the point?" - Myn Donos, after the death of his comrades

"I told you how I lost my parents. Nothing I ever do can make up for that loss. But if I put myself in the way of people just as bad as the ones who killed my family, if I burn them down, then someone else they would have hurt gets to stay happy. That's the only honorable thing about my profession. It's not the killing. It's making the galaxy a little better." - Wedge Antilles, Pilot, X-wing book 9, Star Fighters Of Adumar

"Remember what you have learned; save you it can!" - Yoda

"Do or do not, there is no try" - Yoda

"I guess a General has to keep the big picture in mind. I get that right and I keep my people alive. No matter what my rank, that's the duty I hold most dear" - Wedge Antilles, Isard's Revenge, p17

Everyone: How long are you going to let the destruction continue?
Kefka: I've tapped into the ultimate power. Observe...!
(Kefka levitates a party member)
Kefka: Such magnificent power! You are like insects to me!
(Kefka lifts a second party member into the air)
Kefka: I will exterminate everyone, and everything!
Everyone: People will keep rebuilding the things you take from them.
Kefka: Then I'll destroy those too.
Why do people rebuild things they know are going to be destroyed?
Why do people cling to life when they know they can't live forever?
Think how meaningless each of your lives is!
Terra: It's not the net result of one's life that is important.
It's the day-to-day concerns, the personal victories, and the celebration of life...and love!
It's enough if people are able to experience the joy that each day can bring!
Kefka: And have you found your "joy", in this nearly dead world of ours?
Terra: Yes!

"To be or not to be, that is the question. These discs I hold, are they a record of what will be, or only of what may? For if the future is indeed immutably foretold, then my demise is but moments from their confirmation, for I cannot live if not the master of my fate. But, if the future can be changed, if these discs record merely one path of all the myriad ways the cosmos might conform, then their power is infinite, and yet still limited. For they could be used but once, and in that change be rendered fiction forevermore. I could destroy them! But, no. That would be a coward's answer. I will know the truth instead. Then 'twill be either them or me that face oblivion." - dinobot, beast wars

The last star fighter
Grig: I've always wanted to fight a desperate battle against incredible odds.

Kodan Officer: What do we do?
Kril: We die.

Grig: Death is a primitive concept; I prefer to think of them as battling evil - in another dimension!

Alex: One gunstar? Against the whole armada? It'll be a slaughter!
Grig: That's the spirit!
Alex: No, MY slaughter!

Alex: Terrific. I'm about to get killed a million miles from nowhere with a gung-ho iguana who tells me to relax!

"Physical courage, which despises all danger, will make a man brave in one way; and moral courage, which despises all opinion, will make a man brave in another." - Charles Caleb Colton

"If we could get to know all the consequences of our actions history would be nothing but an idyllic and constant harmony of free wills, or the infallible unfolding of a rational design. We would then always act rationally, that is, we would not act at all, since we would simply follow a pre-established and sterile pattern. But then we would not be free. We are free, however, and this means literally that we do not know what we are doing." - Nicola Chiaromonte

Reason is what tells us to ignore the present and live in the future. So all we do is make plans. We think that somewhere out there are going to be green pastures. It's crazy. Heaven is nothing but a grand, monumental instance of the future. Listen, now is good. Now is wonderful." - Mel Brooks

"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function. One should, for example, be able to see that things are hopeless and yet be determined to make them otherwise." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

"I address you tonight, not as the president of the United States, not as the leader of a country, but as a citizen of humanity. We are faced with the very gravest of challenges. The Bible calls this day Armageddon - the end of all things. And yet, for the first time in the history of the planet, a species has the technology to prevent its own extinction. All of you praying with us need to know that everything that can be done to prevent this disaster has been found and researched. The human thirst for excellence, knowledge, every step of the ladder of science, every adventurous reach into space, all of our combined modern technologies and imaginations, even the wars that we've fought, have provided us with the tools to wage this terrible battle. Through all the chaos, through all the wrongs and discord, through all the pain and suffering, through all of our lives, there is one thing that may nurse our souls and elevate our species above its origin, and that is our courage. The dreams of this entire planet are focused tonight on those 14 brave souls traveling into the heavens. May we all, citizens all over, see this event through. Mankind....that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed with our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps, it's fate, today is the fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression or persecution. But from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to exist. Should we win today, the fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday. But as the day when the world declared in one voice: ‘We will not go quietly into the night...we will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today, we celebrate our independence day!’" - President Whitmore, from ID4

Always, By Irving Berlin
I'll be loving you always
With a love that’s true always
When the things you've planned
Need a helping hand
I will understand always, always
Days may not be fair always
That’s just when I'll be there, always
Not for just an hour
Not for just a day
Not for just a year
But always.

They say there are no more heroes anymore, But they're there. walk down any street and you will find them. the mothers who work the fathers who strive, the children who over come. They are not larger then life, but they are larger then their own lives. Their names aren't famous, but their virtues are. Hard work common sense. An unshakable belief in them selves. If you're looking for a hero, Look around. - Anonymous
